Türkiye’s first astronaut, Alper Gezeravcı, emphasized the significant role of GUHEM (Gökmen Space Aviation Training Center) in raising awareness about space. Gezeravcı stated, "I encourage our young siblings who will leave their mark on space in the future to visit GUHEM."
After completing Türkiye's first manned space mission and spending 18 days on the International Space Station, Alper Gezeravcı visited GUHEM. Upon arriving at Türkiye's first interactive space and aviation-themed education center, established by the Bursa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BTSO) in collaboration with the Bursa Metropolitan Municipality and TÜBİTAK, Gezeravcı signed his photo on the "Wall of Legends." The wall features images of astronauts who have visited the center. Gezeravcı expressed his pride, saying, "It is an honor to return here with the joy and pride of completing this mission and to join the ranks of such legendary figures."
"You Took Pioneering Steps at GUHEM"
Recalling his participation in the Planetary Congress hosted last September by BTSO, Bursa Business School, and GUHEM, which welcomed over 70 globally renowned astronauts, Gezeravcı said: "At GUHEM, you took pioneering steps for a mission our country had never undertaken before. You brought together a community we had never been part of on Turkish soil for the first time. It was an extraordinary experience for us. GUHEM’s organization enabled us to meet individuals who had contributed significantly to this field, allowing us to learn from their experiences before our mission. Upon returning to the U.S., I had the chance to collaborate with people I met during this event in preparation for our mission. Coming back here now, after completing this mission and joining the ranks of those who have achieved similar feats, is truly a matter of pride."
"GUHEM Plays a Vital Role in Space Awareness"
Gezeravcı highlighted GUHEM’s critical role in raising space awareness in Türkiye, stating: "Looking forward, our government is committed to increasing the number of science centers inspired by GUHEM that will elevate space awareness to the highest level. However, under current circumstances, I invite all young people across Türkiye, especially those who aspire to make their mark on our space endeavors in the future, to visit GUHEM." |
