First Thematic Event from Bursa EU Information Center

Bursa European Union (EU) Information Center which operates under the umbrella of Bursa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BTSO) welcomed Mr. Vincent-Guillaume Poupeau; EU Turkey Delegation Counselor at its first thematic event.

Bursa EU Information Center carries out its projects to inform the business world and every class of society about European Union. The Information Center hosted “Turkey-EU Relations Horizon Tour: New Dimensions, New Objectives” themed seminar in collaboration with Economic Development Foundation (İKV). Mr. Aytuğ Onur; Member of the Board of Directors of BTSO, Mr. Nevzat Ergün; Deputy Governor, Mr. Mustafa Altıntaş; Deputy Governor, Mr. Şükrü Köse; Deputy Chairman of Bursa Metropolitan Municipality and many other attendants took place at the seminar.

 

EU MEMBERSHIP PERIOD NEEDS TO BE CONCLUDED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE

Mr. Aytuğ Onur began his speech by congratulating 9th of May; European Day and continued by stating that EU is the primary partner of Turkey for export and import. “In EU, our country is the 7th in export and 5th in import; Bursa is a leading city of Turkey’s economy and also a very important center for its intensive trade with the EU countries.”  Mr. Onur also highlighted the fact that representatives of the business world have been having difficulty in entering to Europe and for this reason he mentioned about abolishing the visa requirements at every possible platform and wish that the EU membership period will be finalized soon.

 

EU AND TURKEY WILL CONVERGE MORE

Mr. Vincent-Guillaume Poupeau; EU Turkey Delegation Counselor commented on abolishing the visa requirements; “Traveling through Europe without visa will be very fast for sure but expecting this situation to change overnight is illogical. We will get to know and understand each other better once the visits between countries increase. EU and Turkey will converge more in the long term.”  Mr. Poupeau also mentioned about the fact that Turkey has progressed greatly and improved itself in the 69 main topics out of 72 which are required by the EU.

Associate Prof. Dr. Çiğdem Nas; Secretary General of the Economic Development Foundation informed the participants with her detailed presentation about Turkey’s accession period to EU. The seminar continued with the speeches made by IKV specialists.
