The Construction of the center which will be first space-themed center of Turkey was began within the scope of Gökmen Project of BTSO and has a great run.
Gökmen Space and Aviation Education Centre (GUHEM) being established on approximately 13.000 square meters’ area will be the best space and aviation center of the Europe and be one of the first five space and aviation center of the World, when it will be completed with the cooperation of Bursa Metropolitan Municipality, Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology and TUBITAK.
Gökmen Space Aviation and Education Centre which will have mechanisms and exhibitions with the purpose of education in space and aviation will be the most important center in Turkey with its 200 million TL budget and modern architecture.
Mechanisms that illuminate the evolution of aviation and flight simulators used in our days on the second floor of Gökmen Space Aviation and Education Centre which will have different practices such as more than 150 interactive installations, aerospace learning centers, space innovation centers and vertical wind tunnels.
Information about atmospheric events, solar system, planets and galaxies will be presented on the second floor of the center called “Space Floor”. Visitors can give gravity-free environment a go thanks to gravity-free area on this floor of the center.
Centre’s foundation was laid last August and it is planned to complete it within a year.
"WE AIM TO TRAIN THE FIRST TURKISH ASTRONAUT IN BURSA”
Mr. İbrahim Burkay; President of the Board of Directors of BTSO said that Gökmen Space and Aviation and Education Centre which will be first space-themed center of Turkey will increase the awareness of space and aviation for young people in primary and secondary schools.
Stating that in addition to exhibition areas, education workshops and laboratories to attract children’s attention will take place in this center being established, Mr. İbrahim Burkay said:
"Countries which have a say in space and aviation sectors train their own astronauts. We should create awareness of space and aviation for young people in our countries that gets to produce domestic satellites. We aim to raise awareness of young people for space and aviation through activities to be held in this context and to train the first Turkish astronaut in Bursa as a result of these studies.”
Mr. Burkay who stated that important studies in space and aviation sectors have been carried out under the leadership of Bursa Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said “Bursa has a great potential to have a voice in space aviation and defense industries by transforming its strong infrastructure in sectors such as machine, automotive, and textile. We closed ranks with companies which carry on business in the sector as a result of studies carried out by both clustering and our union. Bursa now has a dominant position in the sectors such as space aviation and defense in which high value-added production is begun.
